Alpaca

Douglas Pharmaceuticals is one of Australasia’s fastest growing pharmaceutical companies and they are true leaders in pharmacy automation. Designed in conjunction with Douglas and manufactured in Japan, the ALPACA represents the latest in automated blister packing technology. It automates the process of packing prescription medication into Medico blister paks.

the situation

The ALPACA, and the blister pack it produces, brings significant benefits to the consumers who use it, from convenience and confidence to the personalisation of their health. Following the recent launch of the ALPACA Douglas wished to expand the use of the ALPACA throughout New Zealand. The issue was, not all polypharmacy patients use a blister pack. A significant percentage of polypharmacy consumers in New Zealand are between the age of 45-65, an age group that haven’t traditionally used blister packs.

our approach

We saw the greatest opportunity for Douglas, lay with this younger patient group. Our approach was simple, by broadening the appeal of the blister pack to a new and younger customer, would in turn build value of the ALPACA and for pharmacies.

the solution

We have worked closely with Douglas and pharmacies to design products, programmes and campaigns tailored specifically for a younger market. In this way we were able increase the appeal of the ALPACA in pharmacy through increasing their potential customer base.
